All inmates are transferred like that? Even county jail? I know when I worked in ER they brought inmates in all shackled and the ankle shackles were so disturbing. These men could barely shuffle along. How demeaning. We rarely knew what their “crime” was. It could have been DUI #4 like my ex or murder. Now that you wrote about it I can see why my ex can’t face me. He knows I picture him shackled because he was taken to ER. Thank God I was not working that night. I didn’t judge these men. I felt empathy. It’s barbaric and Damian is justified in his fears. What can be done? Could an attorney prevent this? It would only work on an individual basis. We know rich inmates are probably driven in limos to court, appointments, etc. there needs to be a law to protect these men and women.
One time a newly arrested man was brought to ER before he was even booked. He was only handcuffed and became combative. He was tased 4x before he was under control. I suppose this is why they shackle. One guy ruins it for all.
