Am I Making a Huge Mistake Moving to a 55 and Older Community?

Some of my friends think I am

I have quite a few female friends. Some are fighting the aging factor that is inevitable as years go by. If I could put a halt to it I would gladly do that. It’s not easy without surgeries, injections, and some cool sculpting for the bulges. My friends are doing many cosmetic things. Two have had some pretty nice facelifts. One had several face filler injections but denies it. One had the extra skin removed from under her arms ….but it came back. Fat farms, liposuction, numerous lotions and creams, masks and rubs….so much is available. The prominent advertising says “use what the stars use”. Doesn’t everyone want to look like them? With a pound of makeup on and airbrushed pictures. Who can live up to that in real life?

So I’m not too pleased when I get these comments from friends about how I’m moving to an old age place. They think I’m making a mistake and throwing in the towel. They just don’t understand the concept. One friend commented her mother had lived there….twenty years ago!

I won’t be the youngest person there. I’m pretty young, healthy, and vibrant. I plan on being around for several more years.

I live alone. I have no handyman to rely on. Many women have a husband, son, son-in-law, or boyfriend, to help them out. I have none of those perks so I panic when something breaks. It’s always on a Saturday night. Or a holiday.

Sometimes I’ll call my brother-in-law but I can tell he’s not about to come over to check anything out. If he can advise me on the phone he will help. My neighbor is not too handy. But he’s glad to take a look. I have a cousin who helped me change the faucet in my master bathroom. She’s almost as good as a guy when it comes to figuring things out. But not electrical, or sump pumps, or garage door openers that won’t lift the door. In my new community, I will not have to worry about any of that. They take care of all appliances, electrical, plumbing, snow, landscaping. You name it. No lady is ever too old for that kind of service.
