Call me crazy but i wish my ex had fought me a little. Had he made me feel like he wanted to fix things I would have agreed. I divorced him to wake him up. To show him he was losing everything for trying to drink himself to death. He did not protest at all even though he got 2 more DUIs waiting for our court date. I knew he was devastated. He showed me! I understand alcoholism better now after years of Al anon but I still regret losing him. He wanted to get married again for 6 years after our divorce. But he kept drinking. Horrible years for me. Wanting what he wanted but being smart enough to not jump back into the fire. It’s finally over. He got a girlfriend and promptly got his 4th DUI in 8 years. Big trouble. A felony charge and 6 months in jail. I knew he was drinking. She didn’t. She’s taking care of him now that he’s jobless, penniless, owed huge fines and on probation for 5 years. He’s lucky she’s willing to be a mother to a 68 year old man. He “rents” a room from her. She drives him around because he has no license until 2027.
