Do Birds Have the Ability to Play Dead?

I think I have proof.

My cat Punkin, who we all know is a monstrous creature, brought a dead bird into my house today and dropped it under my Christmas tree.

MERRY CHRISTMAS, MOM!

As usual, when I notice these shenanigans, I grab a towel, scoop the bird up, and take it outside.

This poor bird looked dead as a doornail.

There was not a mark on it. No blood or ruffled feathers. It looked like it was taking a nap.

She protested profusely as I removed the bird from beneath my tree, but my idea was to get it out of my house and lay it under one of the pine trees in the back.

That way, its family could retrieve it and take it wherever birds say goodbye to their family and friends.

It was a bit limp when I picked it up with the towel.

It did not move.

I held it close, so I didn’t drop it and carefully laid the towel on the ground beneath a lovely blue spruce. I gently opened the towel, taking one last look at the poor thing.

SWOOSH…….that bird jumped upright and flew away!
