ERROR………….410 The author deleted this Medium story.
Why am I seeing this the last 2 days?
The last couple of days I start reading an article in my e-mail from a writer I follow. When I click to expand it, which takes me to the entire article on Medium, this message comes up:
This has happened at least 4x in the last couple days and has me confused.
In Google’s terms: Specifically, a 410 error means “gone.”
“the server returns this response when the requested resource has been permanently removed. It is similar to a 404 (Not found) code, but is sometimes used in the place of a 404 for resources that used to exist but no longer do.”
On Medium specifically, it means the author has deleted a story.
But why? I’m not seeing anything weird or controversial in what I read. And then, I can't finish the article! It drives me crazy.
At first, I thought it was odd, maybe a one off. But after the 4th time, I’m really baffled.
Are authors deleting these articles and posting them elsewhere? Is that what is done to re publish? Or, to update and change the title?
These are not old articles. All are from 2022.
I’ll wait for Medium to answer me about this question but in the meantime can any other writers and/or readers explain? I can’t even go to the home page of that writer and see if I can find the article there. It’s as if all their articles are gone. They disappeared?
Can anyone tell me what is going on? Should I be taking this personally?
