Have You Been Screwed Over by Someone You Hired on Facebook?
I asked on Facebook if there was anyone good at flooring my two small bathrooms. I heard from about 5 people. I chose one. He messaged me and seemed real nice. He came by on a Saturday morning to give me an estimate. $400 labor for the two small bathrooms. And I would buy all the materials. He talked me into getting plank flooring. He said it was the newest thing and looked cool. We went to Lowes together and he loaded up my cart. We went through the cashier line, I handed over my credit card, and he took all the stuff in his truck back to my house.
Are you already seeing a big DUMB sign on my forehead?
However, he did end up back at my house and he had another guy with him. “This is my cousin. He’s going to help me.” Then he wanted $200 up front which I gave him. Next thing I know the boss is leaving. He has to take his brother for chemo. What? But…..? See ya!
The cousin, I’ll call him Barney, didn’t have a clue of what he was doing. I went up to check on him and he had laid all the planks next to each other full size. He didn’t stagger them like the directions said that my 6 year old grand daughter could have read and understood. I texted the boss. He said he couldn’t do anything about it since he wasn’t there to see it. “But”, I said, “you took the job”!
I talked to Barney working on the floor. He insisted he was doing it right.
Barney had no drivers license and didn’t bring any food or anything to drink with him for the day. He kept asking me for a “code drink”. He went through a 6 pack of coca cola. Then ANOTHER guy comes and picks Barney up. Another cousin. I say “where's the boss”? They both look at me like I’m a Martian.
The boss and Barney show up the next day. The boss stays about an hour then says he’ll be back. I ask about the flooring being put in wrong. He says he’ll get it right later. How? Barney keeps on working doing the same incorrect job he was already doing.
