Hey, Lucy. I hear you loud and clear. As I said, I thought it was ridiculous too. I wanted someone to beat the crap out of the tattler!!

If she had felt it was a big deal at the time, she could have simply taken it to the teacher, explained to him what happened, and maybe they would have handled it differently. Since another student reported her (apparently not a friend of any kind) I believe they had to follow the protocol for all "weapons" found. If the tattler went home and told his parents that Ella had a knife in school, he told the teacher, and the school didn't do anything, the next thing you know it's all over FB. Every bozo in town then hears about it. Her name is dragged through the mud and the incident is exaggerated. Her little pocket knife turns into a machete! These other parents get involved and it becomes a witch hunt. And my granddaughter had enough on her plate. Her mom was nowhere to be found during this whole mess.

I got an attorney because if we didn't take it seriously she could have been suspended until June and this was November. I believe God guided us through the whole thing. We sure said a lot of prayers. The consequences could have been much worse. I guess the moral of the story is once the ball gets rolling it's necessary to decide on the best course of action. The attorney advised against trivializing the incident. That just gets the school board on the defensive and they wield a lot of power. These kinds of cases were his specialty. He knew what he was doing. All things considered, I believe, regardless of the minor circumstances, God gave us the best outcome.

Thank you for thoughtfully commenting on this.
