I can understand your shock and also your empathy. Just from my personal experience, she stole because she was an addict and needed money. Stealing is second nature to most addicts. I believe they convince themselves it's OK. As for her being off drugs now, I hope that's the truth. Lying is also second nature to addicts. Your support will help because everyone else will be judging her. Prison is not rehab. Drugs are still available in there.
