I feel terrible about your situation. Could the dog stay with his grandparents? Or, your dad? When my daughter and son in law were first looking for an apartment and she was pregnant the only one they could find did not allow animals. My dad took my SIL's dog and found him a good home. Farmers usually have a lot of dogs and they treat them like family. My dad couldn't keep him because my parents went to Florida for the winter. I know it was hard for my SIL but he did have to make a choice. Once they prospered and got a house they immediately got a dog they still have to this day. I know your boyfriend can't replace his dog like that but maybe a trusted person where he could go and visit? IDK. It sounds bad for him to live out of his car.
