I have let this premise eat away at me for the last 5 years. My husband and I got divorced over his alcoholism. It became unbearable. I lost a lot and would have lost more had we remained married. He was sued for injuring a lady in an accident. He hit her from behind while he was drunk.

People would send me his mug shots (good friends??) from the 3x he went to jail. He disappeared for days. So many lies.

But, I still beat myself up because he finally got sober a few years ago and so far, so good. Should I have waited it out? And risked financial ruin caused by his drunk driving? For whatever reason, he always got behind the wheel when he drank. Often with a six-pack in his truck. The lies put the nail in the coffin. Basically, he was saying "you are so dumb I expect you to believe these blatant lies".

Anyway. Sorry. I guess I will always feel guilty due to statements like the one above. It sucks and has kept me from finding someone else.

I enjoyed reading your article.
