I have seen a lot in my 40 years of nursing too. I know very well that all patients are not treated equally in the medical arena. I've known cardiothoracic surgeons who refused to do surgery on smokers until they quit. It was their choice to make.
I am the first to acknowledge that if she does not stop now she will not be a candidate for extensive care or surgery. She is suffering right now and just wants to be a mom. But, she has to pay the dues to recover first and that's the challenge. I would not want to be her.
