I just cried all through this. I thought of the guys I knew who were killed in Vietnam. Fighting causes so much hurt for so many, and most of it is senseless. I have not been a soldier nor am I an expert on any war ever fought. But what does killing each other accomplish? I know at times wars have been "won" or "lost" but does that happen anymore? Since Vietnam? What is all this death and destruction accomplishing? Not peace.

I have nothing but ultimate respect for every soldier who has seen combat and felt the fear that must be paralyzing. My brother was wounded in Vietnam and will not talk about it.

Why is war justified?

A war is only just if it is fought for a reason that is justified, and that carries sufficient moral weight. The country that wishes to use military force must demonstrate that there is a just cause to do so. The main just cause is to put right a wrong.

Thanks for your perspective. It can't be easy writing about this. I'll be looking into your book.
