I was a selfish 16-year-old when he briefly came home, went to Ohio State for a while, then quickly moved to San Diego. He covered it up for many years. It did not eat away at him until he got in his 50s and I do not know what triggered it. His wife had all his medals box framed as a gift and he was mad as hell at her for it. But, it's a big part of his life he can't just block out.
