I was eligible at 65.5 and I took mine a few months early because I retired at 65. I think it was $20/month I lost. I have a pension from work too.
I've never heard any of my older patients complain they took SS too early. It works out if you are still pulling a paycheck but otherwise, I needed the money. My father-in-law was waiting until 65. They didn't have much money. He died at 63 and never collected a dime but my mother-in-law got his and it was much more than hers. My husband took his at 62 and died at 63 just like his dad. It's really all a gamble.
