I'm getting some knee injections next week and hoping my orthopedic doctor requests a hip X-ray because I got that sudden pain in my hip just like you described. It hurts way more than my knee and has been waking me up at night. I can't sleep on my left side because of it. Let us know if yours goes away. Motrin helped for a minute.
