I'm sorry, but that destination sounds like a hassle for everyone rather than a special occasion. No matter what age you are, it seems a bit far out.
My niece lives there, so it was understandable, but her wedding in DC over Memorial Day cost us thousands. Fortunately, she and the groom declined to receive gifts which helped the budgets of many who otherwise could not come. Me and two grown daughters, who don't get along, shared a tiny room. Uber fees, the cost to park the car for the weekend, and clothing for a "formal" affair added up to a chunk of dough. She was worth it because she grew up near our family but a friend whose child you may not know too well? I'd have to contemplate that one.
