But she’s still in terrible pain.

The term “dope sick” is slang for opiate withdrawal symptoms. People typically experience such symptoms when they detox from painkillers like Fentanyl.

My daughter cannot go to a recovery facility with opioids in her system. But, she’s been getting the Fentanyl Patch for 2 months now for her pain from the MRSA abscess on her spine.

I never understood why she was given that patch. I know she has a lot of pain but there are other medications they might have tried. Now she’s in a real mess.

Fentanyl patches are meant to be used by individuals who are already tolerant to other opioid drugs and require around-the-clock pain management.

She says she was not taking any opiates before her hospitalization, only cocaine.

Drug intoxication and addiction can compromise judgment and decision-making and potentially lead to risky sexual behavior, including trading sex for drugs, and needle sharing. This increases a cocaine user’s risk for contracting infectious diseases such as HIV and hepatitis C. 1
