When my daughter was 22, and in college, her dad approached her about going in with him to run a carry-out business in the Podunk town he lived in. He enjoyed being Mr. Popularity and he wanted to have a business. It was called The Party Center. His friends would come and drink beer, hang out, buy pop and chips, lottery tickets, and get their paychecks cashed.

The building consisted of a drive-thru and store, a country restaurant, and 2 deluxe apartments upstairs.

She asked and me and her stepdad what we thought and we said, “Don’t do it!”

Her dad was a compulsive gambler.

If there was money around her dad would gamble it away. We were afraid the business would not thrive. She only had a year left of nursing school.

But….nope. She went with him.

She moved into one of the upstairs apartments and ran the drive-through and store while her dad started up his own catering business. The problem was he kept taking money from the drive-through to beef up his catering.
