My Grand Daughter Was Suspended For Having a Weapon in Her Bookbag
This is very serious stuff
Two police officers and the principal came to my granddaughter’s classroom and escorted her to the office. She had no idea why. She was scared. They searched her backpack.
In her bag was a 3" pocket knife. It was closed like the knife in the picture. It fell out of a pocket on the side of her backpack when she was getting an assignment out. She put it back. It never crossed her mind that it was a weapon. But, another student saw it and reported it to the teacher. The teacher, in turn, followed protocol for a student with a weapon and notified the principals office.
The county fair had been the week before school started. That was August and now it was October. Ella is in a 4H club called the Rough Riders and shows her horse at the fair. The 4H club members camp at the fair all week and take shifts doing barn duty. They all carry pocket knives because they have to cut the twine on the bales of hay and straw used to care for the horses.
Ella used her bookbag to pack some of her clothes and toiletries for the fair. Thus, the knife had been there for over 2 months in a seldom-used pocket of her bag. She had forgotten it was there.
