My two oldest grandchildren cannot attend college right now because even though they are very smart, their dad earns too much for them to get financial aid, yet he can't afford college for them, and he isn't motivated either. I hate seeing it, but I do not have the money to send them. I have four grandchildren; if I help one, I must help all four. Student loans are their only choice, and they have yet to tailor themselves to what they want to do to get a loan yet. We have some excellent trade schools here as well. But my granddaughter works full time and doesn't have time for school because she pays rent to her dad, has a car payment, and buys all her own stuff. To me, there's where a big problem lies. The kids in these situations need help and guidance. Not all parents are interested in their childrens future but the counselors at school, especially during covid, have been very little help.
