ONLINE DATING/SCAMS/FINDING LOVE
The Odds of Finding Your Prince Charming With an Online Dating App
I kissed plenty of frogs over the years
According to the Pew Research Center, on November 18, 2023, only about 10% of people in committed relationships or marriages met their partner on a dating site or app.
There are chances you take when meeting a stranger online, but the biggest complaint of all dating sites is scammers and catfishing — or, often, just liars. I’m writing only about men in this article, but women are guilty, too.
The difference between a scammer and a liar is intention. Liars say their body is “regular” when they “could lose a few pounds.” Or, they claim they are 6'2" but are only 5'10" (perhaps they were 6'2" when they were 19 and before the four back surgeries that shortened them a bit). All of their pictures may be taken with a ball cap or hat on, and when you meet them, you find they are partially bald and sport a “classy” comb-over or a hairpiece. You can bust a man on all kinds of things, but usually, they are not meant to be malicious.
They just forgot the last 40 years of their lives and how they grew a bit older and changed. Liars are one thing, but being catfished is criminal and dangerous.
