There’s Trauma For Both of You When You Get Your Cat Declawed

WARNING: This is a controversial subject. Believe me, it took me 2 years of trying to stop the clawing before I finally did this. I love my cat. She means the world to me. If you want to criticize, DO NOT READ. You won’t be telling me anything I don’t already know.

I took the traumatic plunge a few weeks ago and had my cat, Punkin,  declawed. I believe it was more traumatic for me than her. It was a horrible week in which I thought I would have a breakdown. I cried and paced and couldn't sleep.Three times over the past 2 years, I scheduled this surgery for her and cancelled last minute.Finally, my vet and I talked. He has 4 cats and he declawed 3 of them. He's a vet! That gave me some faith. I had read such awful stuff on the internet. I'm not saying it's not true in some cases but in my case it seemed my last resort.He said that a lot of cats were dumped off by people instead of paying to declaw them and keep them. Just dumped on the side of the road to be hit, or worse, chased and eaten by coyotes.He asked me what was worse: Letting your cat rip your house apart and ruin your furniture and belongings, or keeping her with you and loving her.
