This Woman Kept Her Head While Others Around Her Were Losing Theirs

Raynor in “The Salt Path” had patience.

Reading the first 3 chapters of this book, The Salt Path, by Raynor Winn, my mind kept thinking of the poem “IF” by Rudyard Kipling.

Kipling writes:
If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,
……………………………………………………………….

Raynor kept her head.

Under major duress, heartache, loss, and unjustifiable treatment, she kept going. She kept making tough decisions. Although her husband Moth was helpful, and part of the decision-making, he was not as strong.

As Scot Butwell wrote in his recent article:

She does what needs to be done to get to the next day.
