Way too much time and effort goes into figuring out claps! Just give everyone 50 because in the end no one really cares. And maybe you missed one of their other articles that was really cool and you would have clapped 50 anyway. Claps don't help us much. But, it does tell other readers this might be a good article. That counts for something, I guess.
