We knew my parents worked hard for their money and were not bankrolling us if we didn't work extra hard as well. It was a lesson well learned because my husband and I worked our butts off to have what we owned. Then, we still went through bankruptcy. I don't see my children doing that at this point. They have never asked for money either.
