An esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) is a test where your doctor uses an endoscope to examine the lining of your esophagus, stomach, and duodenum.

Endoscope: an illuminated usually fiber-optic flexible or rigid tubular instrument for visualizing the interior of a hollow organ or part (such as the bladder or esophagus) for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes that typically has one or more channels to enable passage of instruments (such as forceps or scissors)https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/endoscope

The esophagus is the muscular tube that connects your throat to your stomach. The duodenum is the upper part of your small intestine.

How, Why, What, Where

You are not allowed anything to eat or drink at least 8 hours prior to the EGD.
